Certified Memorialist Program

The MBNA Certification Program was developed as a result of a three-year study program by some of the industry's most recognized leaders. It raises the professional standards to those engaged in the memorialization industry and awards the top level of competence and ethical conduct. The MBNA Certified Memorialist® (CM) designation is the highest honor of professional achievement available in the memorial industry. Certification is awarded to individuals, not a firm as a whole. Both Members and non-members of MBNA can apply to become a CM.

CMs are recertified every three years with requirements to continue their involvement in the profession and education.

To become a Certified Memorialist®, a candidate must:

  • have at least two years of experience working full-time in the memorial profession
  • be currently employed full-time in the memorial profession
  • have acceptable character, ability and reputation

A grave marker is one of the only pieces of artwork that an average family will ever buy. These hand-made tributes to the life of a loved one serve many important purposes for a grieving family, but they are also an important permanent record that will tell an individual's story to the generations that follow.

One of the most iconic tools of a stone mason is the square-tipped chisel used to break stone in a straight line. This video shows the centuries-old process of rock pitching.

If you were given only a few square feet on which to tell your whole life story, what would you say? What events, and memories would you include? What would you want your great, great grandchildren to know about you? Pre-need memorials give you the chance to make important decisions about the story of your life.
