by Trenton Porter, Caldwell Monument Company
Commissioned by the Davis family to honor the life of Trent Davis, this memorial captures the essence of joy, love, and the enduring bond forged during cherished family vacations by the sea.
Kimberly Davis and her family sought to commemorate Trent as the happy, fun-loving family man they remembered so fondly. Vacations together were among their most treasured memories, so Kim requested a prominent palm tree as the centerpiece, around which the entire beach scene was designed. Specific elements such as a subtle heart shape in the clouds, a tiki umbrella, and beach chairs were also included at the family’s request. Additionally, Kim provided photographs of the family and their beloved dog to be artistically incorporated into the scene. Amber Crites worked closely with the family and created a design they loved. Design development began in May, with final approval of the artwork completed by mid-July.
Collaboration was key in bringing this vision to life. The stone was manufactured by Stone Future from premium Jet Black granite. The memorial tablet measures 48” x 8” x 30”, and the base measures 60” x 14” x 8”. The tablet, fully polished, features a custom-sculpted palm tree, while the base includes a polished flat top with a margin and rock-pitched sides—an elegant contrast that adds visual interest and depth. Thanks to the skill and efficiency of Stone Future, the granite arrived promptly and beautifully finished.
Following the granite’s arrival in November, Caldwell Monument Company began the meticulous process of etching and engraving. The beach scene was machine-etched with extraordinary care, especially around the sculpted palm tree. Once the etching was complete, the inscription was engraved. The final step was installation, completed just in time for Christmas, allowing the Davis family to reflect and celebrate together.
This project exemplifies the power of craftsmanship, collaboration, and storytelling. The combined expertise of Stone Future and Caldwell Monument Company made this memorial not only possible, but exceptional. From initial conversations to installation, the process spanned approximately seven months. We are deeply honored that the Davis family entrusted us with preserving Trent’s legacy through this meaningful memorial tribute.
