Michael Maclean of Dan Bellan Design Studio was honored in the Small Monument category. The family of Melody Robinson envisioned a moon-inspired small white disc as a focal element. To bring this vision to life, Michael used white marble and a variety of techniques and tools, including a water jet process, a stationary diamond saw, angle grinders, and more. His hard work resulted in a beautiful and meaningful granite and aventurine monument that “shimmered like water in the moonlight.” When describing the project Michael added, “In accepting this award I would like to include The Penelakut Band for sharing sacred unceded territory, my clients for their visionary patronage and Dan Bellan Design Studio for their exacting assistance in the engraving and installation of this memorial to Melody Robinson.”

Michael Maclean, located in British Columbia, has been making monuments since 2005. He uses his talents to create monuments that honor and represent the personalities of his customers. He recently has been expanding his memorial services especially to those who have a more unique and customized vision.
